THE GREAT DEPRESSION @ Space 1026 ::: Apr 17, 2009 :::
6:00PM Filmmaker, photographer, and artist, Bill Daniel presents "The Great Depression".
Culminated from over twenty-years of work and cross-country travels, "The Great Depression" is a mixed media gallery show that has evolved from the on-going Sunset Scavenger project. The gallery will be jammed with a mix of Bill's photography - from murals to snapshots, a mash-up wall of found things + friends' work, a video projected onto signal flags, and some stuff that he's been dragging around from state to state, waiting for a place to stick it up.
ALSO on SATURDAY April 4th 7:00pm @ Space 1026
Join Bill for a special screening of his epic and beautiful documentary, "Who Is Bozo Texino?" The black and white film shot in 16mm and Super8mm over 16-years chronicles the search for the source of a ubiquitous and mythic rail graffiti-- a simple sketch of a character with an infinity-shaped hat and the scrawled moniker, "Bozo Texino"-- a drawing seen on railcars for over 80 years. Daniel's gritty film uncovers a secret society and it's underground universe of hobo and railworker graffiti, and includes interviews with legendary boxcar artists.
The night will also include musical performances by The Extraordinaires and Sweatheart.

Black Powder & Winter Work ::: Jan 11, 2009 :::
What a great place to get those last minute holiday gifts! It's that time again for the semi-annual (twice a year) PUNK ROCK FLEA MARKET. Our most popular reoccurring event/show/whatever (by far). All proceeds raised will goto the purchase of necessary equipment and supplies to ensure that all ages shows continue to remain a reality at The First Unitarian Church in Philadelphia - mainly the remaining payment for our new liability insurance policy. Do not let the name lead you to believe that it's just punk records, clothes etc. - it's a full on flea market with everything from furniture, to laptops / computers , to stereo equipment, to handmade apparel, to vegan treats, information from various non profit groups, book stores, artists selling their work, bicycles & skateboards and whatever else we can fit onto the ballroom floor at The Electric Factory.
Black Powder is afoot...
Kiss Me Like You Mean Goodbye... ::: Oct 31, 2008 :::
Space 1026 is preparing our Annual Art Auction for 2008. We will have a preview night for First Friday in December, a week long eBay auction and an incredible selection of art donations for you to bid on for the Live Auction on December 12th.
Supporting the Art Auction through donations and purchases helps ensure that Space 1026 can continue showing artists from all over the world in our gallery,
hold community centered events and provide a collaborative and supportive environment to the Philadelphia community.
This new small group of work is a collection of simple dark casting shadows by architecture that is complex and intricate..these shadows show the buildings true form and shape which is something that captures the interest of the artists.
Running until the end of October...
