THE GREAT DEPRESSION @ Space 1026 ::: Apr 17, 2009 :::

4.03.09

6:00PM Filmmaker, photographer, and artist, Bill Daniel presents "The Great Depression". Culminated from over twenty-years of work and cross-country travels, "The Great Depression" is a mixed media gallery show that has evolved from the on-going Sunset Scavenger project. The gallery will be jammed with a mix of Bill's photography - from murals to snapshots, a mash-up wall of found things + friends' work, a video projected onto signal flags, and some stuff that he's been dragging around from state to state, waiting for a place to stick it up.

ALSO on SATURDAY April 4th 7:00pm @ Space 1026 Join Bill for a special screening of his epic and beautiful documentary, "Who Is Bozo Texino?" The black and white film shot in 16mm and Super8mm over 16-years chronicles the search for the source of a ubiquitous and mythic rail graffiti-- a simple sketch of a character with an infinity-shaped hat and the scrawled moniker, "Bozo Texino"-- a drawing seen on railcars for over 80 years. Daniel's gritty film uncovers a secret society and it's underground universe of hobo and railworker graffiti, and includes interviews with legendary boxcar artists.

The night will also include musical performances by The Extraordinaires and Sweatheart.

Going Back... ::: Jul 10, 2008 :::

The next time you're feeling completely useless and confused about what the hell you want to do with yourself for the rest of your life, and few things seem to be working out, and most of the interests that you used to love & get excited about have mutated into some sort of instantaneous grab-bag of bullshit, to the point that you sometimes wonder if there is anything pure left in the world...do yourself a favor. Punch yourself in the face, crawl out of your hole and onto your bike and go to a show of some band you love...and go nuts. It's kind of hard to think about all the things that were bothering you when you're engulfed in sound and wondering whether or not you might just pass out then and there. When you're riding back home after midnight, soaked in sweat, blood and beer you might start to feel a little better about everything...

I have a piece in the show mentioned above as well as some up coming shows in August and September. Details will be posted shortly...

Scallion has just released an album of songs from 2005-2006. You can find more details here.

This release was done as a run of 100 individually unique screen printed jackets of tree branches. Each cover is slightly different and shows a different section of a larger image. The lettering is handwritten on each jacket in black ink and each cd-r is labeled in watercolor.

So my sister, Kelsey, came up to the city for the 4th of July weekend. We watched fireworks, went to the zoo, played baseball, saw Wall-E, and dyed some fabric. Life was good...
