Kiss Me Like You Mean Goodbye... ::: Oct 31, 2008 :::
The next time you're feeling completely useless and confused about what the hell you want to do with yourself for the rest of your life, and few things seem to be working out, and most of the interests that you used to love & get excited about have mutated into some sort of instantaneous grab-bag of bullshit, to the point that you sometimes wonder if there is anything pure left in the world...do yourself a favor. Punch yourself in the face, crawl out of your hole and onto your bike and go to a show of some band you love...and go nuts. It's kind of hard to think about all the things that were bothering you when you're engulfed in sound and wondering whether or not you might just pass out then and there. When you're riding back home after midnight, soaked in sweat, blood and beer you might start to feel a little better about everything...

I have a piece in the show mentioned above as well as some up coming shows in August and September. Details will be posted shortly...
Scallion has just released an album of songs from 2005-2006. You can find more details
here.
This release was done as a run of 100 individually unique screen printed jackets of tree branches. Each cover is slightly different and shows a different section of a larger image. The lettering is handwritten on each jacket in black ink and each cd-r is labeled in watercolor.
So my sister, Kelsey, came up to the city for the 4th of July weekend. We watched fireworks, went to the zoo, played baseball, saw Wall-E, and dyed some fabric. Life was good...
An Evening with Cannonball Press and Space 1026
Thursday, February 14, 2008
7:00-10:00 p.m. @ The MoMA
In The Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Education and Research Building
Join PopRally for a special night with Martin Mazorra and Mike Houston, printmakers and founders of Cannonball Press, along with artists from Space 1026, a unique creative community located in downtown Philadelphia.
Cannonball Press is a Brooklyn-based organization that produces affordable black and white prints by a number of artists (including Sean Star Wars, David Rees, David Ellis, Maya Hayuk, and Swoon.) In addition to their own art, Mazorra and Houston also work together to create large format woodcut prints. Space 1026 was founded over a decade ago by a handful of artists and tricksters who organize rowdy public events and outrageous installations at their building and at other institutions. At the heart of Space 1026 is a communal screenprinting workshop where the madness comes to life.
Following presentations by the artists, Gretchen Wagner, Curatorial Assistant in MoMA's Department of Prints & Illustrated Books, moderates a discussion about the artists' work, printmaking, collaborations, and more. A cocktail reception follows the event.
Tickets are $5 and are available at the Museum information and Film desks. You must be twenty-one or older to attend this event.
BE THERE!!!!!
So the physical store is up and running while the online store is constantly being updated with more and more rad stuff on a daily basis.
I've got a few things over there if you care to
check em' out.
The following was pulled from a CityPaper article::
Don't let its size fool you — Space 1026's new retail nook has plenty to offer. Located in the back of a small computer room and nestled between a gallery and a screen-printing studio, Store 1026. is packed with treasures created by members of the Chinatown-based artist collective. Among the work crowded on rope-bridge shelves are graphic prints by Alex Lucas and Bill McRight; threads by Crystal Stokowski and Andrew Jeffrey Wright; goods from independent publisher Free News Projects; and zines inspired by past exhibits.
In addition to supporting its artists, Store 1026 will help raise funds to maintain or eventually purchase the building it inhabits — which won't be easy. "Buying and being able to support the building would be a dream come true," says member and store co-founder Aryon Hoselton. "But I think now we are hoping for an investor who supports the arts community and will allow us to keep on keeping on."

So the time has finally come!
Voodoo Economics' new record is out and the first edition in a series of 5 is printed and constructed. Darian Scatton has been handling the website which is now officially launched. The record release show is tonight and should be a blast. Hopefully I'll get there in time to see the Popos. Major thanks to Sarah Van Keuren, Liv Helgesen, Dan Hughes, Victoria Sadicario, and Denis O'Sullivan for their help with this project.
Tonight also has in store for us the much anticipated
1026 Annual Art Auction. See below for info::

So there's been a lot going on recently and even more to look forward to before the holidays. The pictures above are just a preview of what is up on display at this Rittenhouse boutique. Kristen Lupoli & I printed about 300 square feet of this wallpaper for the installation and were graced by the kindness of Jordan Burgis to help finish hanging it. Swing by and check it out if you get a chance....it looks best at night::

So we are closing on the two week marker before
Voodoo Economics' new full length,"If:Then::Iminami" hits the streets. The layout and printing of the jackets are coming along quite well. Given the medium, it will most likely result in limited editions and variations of the design... for all of you out there that enjoy having a choice in these silly matters, this is for you.
Details on the record release show will be posted shortly...
So the time again approaches for the semi-annual punk rock flea market. Dan Hughes and myself have grabbed tables together and will be selling everything from screenprints to lithographs, paintings to etchings, records to kisses. Come on by and say hello and you might get one of the latter.
I guess that's it for now, I'm home for Thanksgiving and going to enjoy some down time before hitting the city again. I'll post more details soon...goodnight.
